Winter Garden Events

Our Gardens have seen snow and colder than normal weather recently. But, it will thrive again in the spring and in the meantime the birds are loving our natural spaces and sources of food and cover.

Our normal 3rd Saturday Workday schedule has been discontinued until February 2026 (i.e., winter is not the best time for us to be in the Garden and thanks to our volunteers we don’t have much unfinished maintenance needs in the Gardens). So, our next scheduled Saturday workday and garden party will be on February 21st 2026. Over the winter our functional committees and teams will continue to do the behind the scenes work of coordinating future programs, developing our 2026 budget, and applying for some grants. The trail creation efforts in the Woodland Shade garden will continue with winter meetings to plan and cost out a multi-purpose deck — that feature will be started next spring if we get a grant.

Upcoming Winter Activities Scheduled:

  • Saturday, February 21st at 9:30am will start our 2026 3rd Saturday Workdays and garden parties program. We will provide more details on this website as that date approaches.
  • Thursday, February 26th at 5:30pm in the Meeting Room of the Library we are hosting a free presentation by Luke Bennet, Conservation Coordinator of the North Carolina Wiidlife Federation. Luke will be tell us all about “Creating Backyard Habitat and the Cerulean Warbler Survey”. This will be a co-sponsored event with the Rotary Club of Madison County.   • Saturday, March 21st at 9:30am will be our monthly 3rd Saturday Workday and garden parties. Hoping you can join us for the fun. We will provide more details on this website as that date approaches.
  • Thursday, March 26th at 5:30pm in the Meeting Room of the Library we are hosting a free presentation by Eric Rooney, Founder of Regeneration Earth and a recognized land steward, gardener, and end-of-life care specialist. Eric will tell us about “Creating an Edible Garden from Seed”. This will be a co-sponsored event with the Rotary Club of Madison County. Watch is webpage space for more details.
  • Saturday, April 18th at 9:30am will be our monthly 3rd Saturday Workday and garden party. Hoping you can join us as these event are always fun. We will provide more details on this website as that date approaches.
  • Thursday, April 30th at 5:30pm in the Meeting Room of the Library we are hosting a free presentation by Christopher Mello, a locally recognized naturalist and leader of our Native Gardens Educational Programming. Christopher presents on “Attracting (or Discouraging) Wildlife and Pollinators”. This will be a co-sponsored event with the Rotary Club of Madison County. Watch is webpage space for more details.
