On April 1st, our volunteers (Tim, Bob, and Ed) continued efforts to replace all our nesting boxes with new solid oak ones. The old boxes lasted about 9 years before we determined it was time to build new ones and to upgrade by adding predator guards on metal supporting posts.
This bluebird box was only up for 25 minutes before a pair of bluebirds decided to check it out. We are hoping they find it to their liking.
Come out and see our many new nesting boxes, including our chimney swift tower which is a 26 foot tall one year old nesting box.
If you come to the Bird Garden you will hear the songs of the chimney swifts being projected into the sky in hopes of attracting chimney swifts to the area and getting them to use our tower for the first time. Once they find the tower, they will use it regularly for nesting in the summer and roosting during their fall migrations.
